On the Board

The bulletin board, that is.
True confession: I cannot imagine life without bulletin boards!

If there is a "theme" in my home organization "system," it is . . . the bulletin board . . . which I apparently embrace as a way to inspire, remind, and capture all the "random" bits and bobs of my life.

I first started thinking about how I utilize the humble bulletin board back in March, when I was writing my Spring Cleaning posts and shared the Clutterbug information about organizing styles. I realized that my Clutterbug-style - a visual, macro organized "butterfly" - would, naturally, gravitate to the bulletin board as a strategy. Of course! I want/I need things right out in front for me . . . where I can see them.

So yesterday I counted up exactly how many bulletin boards I have scattered through my house.
Eleven!
I have eleven bulletin boards in active use in my house.

There's the one above, on the side of the "wall" that houses my refrigerator. It is a catch-all for silly things that make us laugh, mostly. And directly across from that bulletin board . . . is another one.

Which appears to be where business cards, "important" phone numbers, and the detritus of our pockets end up.

I have bulletin boards in my laundry room (two of them, actually). They collect random buttons and care instructions and postcards and photos. I have a giant bulletin board in my back hallway for a calendar and schedules and important pieces of mail. My sewing area has two (mostly for useful stuff: needles, swatches, threads, unused pompoms, instruction sheets, conversion information, etc.)

My "art room" has two more. They're much more  . . . colorful.

There's another one over my desk . . .

Clearly, I am big on visual inspiration!

Tom (who is also a "butterfly" when it comes to organizing styles) embraces the bulletin-board-as-organization-and-inspiration-tool, as well. Here's the bulletin board over his desk. . .

Very neat. Very inspired. Very visual. I love to read all of his notes and quotes (even when I can't make heads or tails out of many of them).

How about you?
Are you a visual person who makes use of the bulletin board for organization and inspiration?
Or does all this make your eyes twitch?

Have a great weekend, everyone. Here's to organization with plenty of inspiration for us all!

I'm completely visual. My work office is loaded with post-its (some upwards of 15 years old) with info and the white board is my go to so I don't forget. If that baby is busy you know I'm on the verge of losing it! :-) xo TGIF!

Vicki

I have one GIGANTIC bulletin board in my workroom and... it would definitely make some eyes twitch! It's been accumulating things for YEARS! It's not really for organization, more for inspiration and memories. I have a few at work, but they're not all that functional, either... mostly photos! I do have a handy phone list and a couple of business cards tacked up, and one is taken up entirely by a map of our area.

OH I LOVED SEEING YOUR BOARDS. I MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE TO MANAGE MY VERY SIMPLE LIFE. IT REALY IS GOOD TO HAVE REMINDERS OF SAYINGS THAT SPEAK TO US

Kim in Oregon

I was just thinking this morning that I needed to do a straightening up of my bulletin board!

Carolyn

I love this post, Kym! Yes--I'm a bulletin board person. I also love my Kikkerland Mobile Photo Holder, where I clip favorite postcards. It was such fun to peruse yours! (I was hoping we'd see the sewing board, I must admit...pompoms and swatches, fun.). My question is--if not a bulletin board, where else does everyone post those mementos and reminders and eye candy? Happy week-ending to you!

Bonny

I felt a little bit nosy, but I can see how well all your bulletin boards work! I don't have even one, but I will be thinking about where I could put one (or two)!

Carole

Not one single bulletin board in this house. I'm a ladybug and I like everything neat and tidy. I do have one bulletin board at work, I put stuff on it that I don't want to lose in the file cabinets.

We’ve had a family bulletin board in the kitchen for years, but now I’m trying to find room for an “inspirational” one for my teeny craft room. That and a big wall calendar for appointments and reminders really keeps me/us going. Love your wine cork one!

Sarah

I have been collecting wine corks for years to make a cork bulletin board, so I am in envy of yours! (The current trend toward screw-top wine is not helping!) The only place I really have a bulletin board is in my office (as in the place I no longer go), where I have a huge one that I use for all the important things that I have to remember or refer to often. I'm fine working from home, but I do miss having all those visual reminders!

Mary

No bulletin boards here ... I do keep some fun things on the side of the refrigerator, but "bits and bobs" are put away. Thank you for the peeks at yours!

Kat

I have one board in my "office" it has sentimental things... some of them are over 25 years old. It is almost at the point of needing a "bulletin board annex" which will mean a reworking of my office wall! Thank you for this fun peek into your boards!
