Running to the Beach
04/10/2017
Saturday was a beautiful day here in Michigan. Chilly . . . but sunny -- and the warmest it's been in a few weeks.
A great day . . . to run to the beach!
Seriously.
Saturday was the Kal-Haven Trail Run -- a 33.5 mile run on the Kal-Haven Trail, a rail-trail from Kalamazoo to South Haven (a Lake Michigan shore town). Tom was part of a 6-person relay run along the trail. (He ran the 3rd - and longest - leg of the run -- 8.08 miles.)
I didn't run -- but I did serve as Cheerleader and Driver. It's great fun -- especially when the weather is decent. Because the trail used to be a railway, there are LOTS of places where the trail crosses the road -- so you can drive along, stopping every so often to cheer and encourage your teammates as they run by.
It took just under 4 1/2 hours for Tom's team to complete the course, ending in South Haven - where we all celebrated with Mexican food and beer.
And then, a walk along the pier out to the South Haven lighthouse.
The weather was perfect. A bit windy and cold out at the lake, but really quite pleasant.
A trip to the beach is always a good idea. Even when you have to run all the way there!
How was YOUR weekend?
What fun! And kudos to Tom for taking the longest leg! It was a beautiful weekend with plenty of it spent outside. I even went for a 3 mile run. It's been months! xo

Now this sounds like my kind of running (enjoying the sun as cheerleader and driver). Hooray for Tom and his team and a beautiful day! (I love the architectural details on that pier!)

I need to make my way to the beach - it would be so good for my soul. Sounds like a fun day.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun, the lake looks so beautiful. It was sunny and in the 60s here, but VERY windy. I did start on some gardening and took a couple of trail walks with my dog. Enjoy your week!

Sounds like a fun time (the cheering and driving part and then Mexican food after!!). Congratulations to Tom and his team. Even though you were bundled up at the beach, I bet it just felt so good to be outside.

You and Tom are such a cute couple! My weekend was a mountain retreat filled with knitters, yarn, and laughter. A politics free respite--beyond refreshing!

Ah, that sounds like a pretty great way to spend a Saturday!! That lighthouse reminds me of a counterpart across the lake (and a bit north) in Algoma.

Your weekend looks full of sun! Congrats to Tom! A quick getaway is always nice. Our weekend was quiet, but it SNOWED on Sunday and it's still cold. I hope this latest storm passes below you and spring makes inroads!
