Around the World
02/13/2017
Last year, at the end of the Month of Letters, I did something I'd been thinking of doing for a couple of years . . .
I signed up for Postcrossing.
In the past year, I've sent 37 postcards (40 - after 3 more go out today!) out to random Postcrossers around the world -- and I've received 39 postcards from other random Postcrossers in return.
It's really fun . . . to open your mailbox and discover exotic stamps and friendly messages and lovely cards from strangers all around the world.
It makes the world seem a whole lot smaller, y'now?
And it gives me a chance to be an ambassador of the United States -- to show strangers around the world that the people of the U.S. are friendly, conversant, and care about reaching out beyond our own borders. With every postcard I write, I have a tiny little space to send a message of personal kindness and goodwill.
And . . . the stamps are just awesome!
What a wonderful way to reach across the borders to spread some goodwill. We are traveling to Europe in the summer and have talked about how we will be perceived by then.

What a wonderful treat for you and your international postcrosser counterparts!

Now, that sounds so fun! Bravo to you! XO

The world is so much better when we know a little more about others as people, not strangers, foreigners, or "them". Thank you for being an ambassador, and those stamps really are incredible!

That is great! I know I wouldn't stick with something like that but I love that you are sending those messages out on our behalf!

I've been enjoying Postcrossing for over 2 years now and my next milestone will be 550! At the moment I have 19 postcards traveling across the world. I have enjoyed this hobby very much! Glad you're enjoying it, too.

Oh wow. That is very cool. I'll bet some of the postcards themselves are pretty awesome too.

The post crossing looks like great fun and inspiration. And, a postcard is so doable compared to writing a letter to someone you don't know.

I joined postcrossing about 2 years ago (I'm a few days shy of 2 years) and I enjoy it for all the reasons you stated. As of today, I've sent 203, received 198, & have 5 traveling. Enjoy!

I love the idea of being an ambassador with my tiny note. I still have dreams of getting back to Europe, but right now, I'm embarrassed ... maybe postcrossing will help. Thank you for sharing the idea.
