Right Now . . . August 2015
September = Fresh Start (And, yeah. You're in the right place.)

Extra . . . Ordinary

The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest.
                                                                                                            --- Thomas Moore

Today for Ten on Tuesday, Carole gives us an interesting topic:  Ten Seemingly Ordinary Things That Bring Us Joy.

It got me thinking.

Ordinary.  What a . . . strange word.  It's not usually employed as a Good Thing.  Or as a compliment.  I mean, really.  Who wants to be ordinary . . . in a world where EXTRAordinary is King?

But I rather like ordinary-ness, myself.

After all, it's the
routine . . . the ordinary things . . . that form our lives and provide us with structure and foundation.

While extraordinary is certainly nice once in a while, ordinary things . . . are special, too!

For me, these seemingly ordinary things bring joy.

  1. Sitting in the sun, especially when it's been AWOL for awhile.
  2. Walking around in my garden with a cup of coffee.
  3. Sleeping with the windows open on a chilly night.
  4. Picking herbs to use in my cooking.
  5. Waking up to a hot cup of coffee.
  6. Crossing things off my to-do list.
  7. Driving with the sunroof open.
  8. Deadheading and weeding in my garden.
  9. Bringing in the mail.
  10. Having good, sharp knives in the kitchen.

How about YOU?  What seemingly ordinary things bring you joy?

What a perfect list! I get an inordinate amount of enjoyment crossing things off my to-do list (and just may put "make to-do list" at the top so I can cross something off immediately!), along with the mail and sharp knives. Wishing you a good mail day!

Oh, that is a great list. If I wrote it, though, I'd have to have someone else taking care of my garden because I'm hopeless with plants. I'm feeling a little inspired by this post to try some sort of small gardening project next year, though.

I love driving with my sunroof open...when I get a sunroof!
Herbs make a meal taste so much better. Your list is fabulous.

I need a sun roof. That might be requirement #1 for my next car! What a great list. ;)

Great list! Crossing things off my list is one that I should have added. I am a list maker for sure.

Oh that cup of coffee is such a joy! And like you, I like that peaceful weeding task too.

Sleeping with the windows open on a cool night. I love that. Crossing items off my list makes me equally happy! Good list :-)

Every one of those is a special ordinary thing -- pure joy. Especially sleeping w/ the windows open when there is cool air wafting in.

I get joy from reading my favorite blogs. That joy is needed this morning because of misplacing several important papers--then there will be the "ding ding ding" joy of remembering!

Great list! And I'm with you on crossing things off that to-do list. Sometimes I add stuff that I've already done just so I can cross it off. Yes. I'm serious.

I love crossing things off my daily to do list too

I love Thomas Moore... Care of the Soul is one of my all-time favorites! what a wonderful list - it makes me smile to think of you in your garden. xo.
