In the Contrast

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.  --- Charles Dickens

Yesterday, as I was rushing around the house preparing to leave for work, I walked into the kitchen and saw this. . .

The sun was breaking over my back fence, lighting my morning and taking my breath away for a minute.

And then. . .

I noticed this. . .

Light . . . stronger in the contrast.

Create light . . . create shadow.

Surprise.

Each morning and evening is the time to celebrate the return to light. I lover how it plays on the snow and creates beautiful shadows against the sunset. Spring is coming a few minutes each day.

So pretty and good for you for noticing it and taking a moment to appreciate it. I bet it set a great tone for your day.

Mary

very cool. isn't it wonderful that we need the dark to see the light.

The dawning of day, the light and shadows, the sweep of a birds wing, even with our haze there are beautiful moments. The light is returning, I count the seconds at the end of each day and can see January slipping away. Thank goodness. Your photo shows January's light very well.

There is also a little more light at the end of the day as we get farther from December 21. Of course, there is probably a bit more at the beginning of the day, but I wouldn't know about that.
