Three on Thursday . . . Times Six

I am a regular listener of Gretchen Rubin's Happier podcast -- and if you are too, you know that she and her sister, Liz, have been talking a lot about their "18 for 2018" lists lately.

Just in case you're not a regular listener (something I highly recommend, by the way; this is a great weekly podcast), "18 for 2018" is a list of 18 action items (or goals) you hope to accomplish during 2018.

This is a fun exercise -- and perfect for the beginning of the new year.  Just think about 18 things you'd like to accomplish during the next 12 months. . . and make a list.

Here's mine (taken right out of my daily journal):

Now, we're talking goals (rather than intentions) here.  These are specific and tangible things I want to do or achieve in the future -- external achievements (action items) that I can cross off my list once I've accomplished them.  My list is a mix of . . .

relatively easy things,
things I can do now,
things I can't do until later in the year,
things that will take all year to accomplish,
and things that have been on my "action plans" for years and years (I'm talking about you, re-paint-the-dining-room!).

This list is not a place for my intentions or for any resolutions.  Nope.  We're talking pure goals here!

It's fun.  Give it a try.   What's on YOUR list . . . of 18 for 2018?

I think I could say Yes to a list like that ;-) must contemplate ... to get started soon! (looks like you've already completed at least one thing - #7!!)

Bonny

Your list looks like a great mix of fun, practical, should do, must do, and plenty for others. We're working on #14 (so much to think about with advance directives), and I love #16!

Vicki

Hm. Now that I might be able to get behind! I love the mix...

Patty

Alright...I can do this. Paint hallway you dark dingy area you. I love your mix too. I'll let you know where I go from here. Heck...maybe I'll blog it! (Hahahahahaha!) xo

AsKatKnits

I love this idea, and I have a "paint-this-room" or two that I should add to my list!

Jo

You go, girl!

Jeannie Gray

18 things sounds very doable. Great idea!

Vera

A great mix on your list! And a lot of fun things as well (trips). Like Bonny, I love # 16. We did #14 shortly after my Father died. I just got so scared that nothing was on paper. A huge weight off my shoulders. Curious: what is Tom's website????

Maggie

19 for 2018 is a great idea. Maybe I should try to write a list like that. There are so many things I'd like to do this year that I feel overwhelmed sometimes. 18 seems doable.

Maggie

I meant 18 ofcourse, not 19. I'll leave that extra one for next year ;-)

Carole

Dale and I did a list together and we had a great time with it. I made a 2-page spread in my journal, very bullet journal-ish and we have already checked off a couple of things. We've got one time things like learn to make cheese and paint the bedroom and then we've got long term things like watch a classic movie once/month and eat at 2 new restaurants this year. I was going to point out that you've been talking about that dining room project since I've known you . . . but since you already did mention it . .. I won't. ;-)

I like this. (or..it looks like I could just use your list ...LOL)

Also, thanks for the podcast recommendation, I'm going to try it!

margene

Great idea for a list. I see several things on your list I could copy onto mine! What? You didn't paint that dining room last year!? ;)
