Mmmmmm. Just thinking abou this week's Ten on Tuesday list makes me hungry! We're talking. . . Favorite Soups. And I love a good pot of soup!
I make a pot nearly every week during the cold months. . . either in my trusty Crock-Pot or on the stove.
Nothing beats a hot cup of soup on a cold winter day. (Throw in a piece of fresh, crusty bread and you've got one of my favorite meals.)
My favorites?
- Hearty Lentil Soup (from The Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook; note: I have the 2010 version of the cookbook, so I haven't seen the new 2012 version)
- Classic Cream of Tomato Soup (from the same cookbook)
- Chicken Noodle Soup (a great recipe is Mom's Chicken Noodle Goodness from Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever)
- Chicken Tortilla Soup (also from Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever)
- Chicken, Mushroom, and Barley Soup (from the same cookbook; as pictured above)
- Minestrone (variety of sources; I like to add cooked turkey to mine)
- Potato Soup (variety of sources; it's nearly impossible to go wrong with potato soup)
- New England Clam Chowder (I don't make this one, but sure appreciate a cup of yummy chowder!)
- Butternut Squash (or Pumpkin) Bisque (variety of sources)
- Hot-and-Sour Soup (with an order of wontons, please!)
Mmmmm! Is it soup yet??????
PS: Tom puts in a plug for split pea soup. I, however, cannot add it to my list. Because it makes me gag.

I make soup in the slow cooker too, I always have home made soup in the freezer for luch with bread. Have you tried soda bread with it? I will mail you my Sister-in-law's recipe - she is from and lives in Ireland, she's really health concsious so it has lots of yummy additions.
Yesterday I made a sweet potato, lentil and kidney bean stew that I ate with a spoon of sour cream in it and the soda bread with butter, it was so yummy its reheating as I type for a repeat peformance!

So many soups!! One year -- either for Christmas Day or the Super Bowl -- we had a soup buffet and it was so much fun (but a lot of dishes)!

Great list! And now I need to find that cookbook as I'm using the slow cooker more than ever!

wow - finally something we disagree on - I'm a HUGE fan of split pea soup (but as a child, I hated it the way my mom made it, like gag-me hate. just saying!)
I think I need a copy of that test kitchens cookbook....and a slow cooker!

Soup feeds to soul like no other food.
Mushroom soup is one of my very favorites, but it's got to be flavorful and not so creamy. Best ever is in the Moosewood cookbook (and made by Smith's uncle). Split Pea does the same for me, Kym.

2nd DS traveled to a meeting/class in NC and had some wonderful soup at the hotel there. The chef was willing to share the recipes (12 of them!) and so I now have many many new soups to try!

I forgot about hot and sour soup! There used to be a place in the skyway in downtown Minneapolis that had the best h&s soup EVAH. It spoiled me for that soup anywhere else.
